Here's our advice if you fancy a change in career direction:
Network. Identify the people already doing the job you would like. Contact them and ask for advice. Snap up any offers of work experience.
Identify transferable skills. For example if you're a busy mother your organisational skills will be well honed. If you have worked in a bar, your mental arithmetic should be sharp.
Break it down into steps. Write a list of tasks, such as to identify what skills employers typically look for in your chosen field, to undertake a course, to update your CV or to practise your interview skills.
Research the industry you are aiming for on the internet and read trade journals.
Don't lose heart. Be prepared for rejection and keep searching and applying for the jobs you want.
