Rent Accounting Officer



To provide financial and administration support services for the rent debit function including:

• Direct Debit payments.
• Reconciliation of control accounts.
• Tenant Home Contents insurance scheme.
• Processing utility invoices and corporate insurance.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• To administer the rent debit, ensuring accuracy at all times, allocating and balancing payments in all forms of the various accounts.
• Maintaining and reconciling control accounts.
• To generate, calculate and maintain the Direct Debit files ensuring that they are submitted in the appropriate time scale according to BACS
• To deliver and support the Senior Rent Accounting Officer with Year End processes for both CBH & CBC.
• To develop new working procedures as and when required.
• To monitor and refund credits on accounts in accordance with procedures.
• To assist in the administration and promotion of the Tenants Insurance Scheme and deal when necessary with the providers.
• To process utility invoices and deal with any queries relating to accounts in accordance with financial regulations.
• To assist in the administration of the corporate insurance schemes.
• Any other duties as required within the Rent Accounting Team.
• Ensure personal compliance with any relevant legislation instructed in particular the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Data Protection Act 1998.

Person Specification:

The essential criteria for this role:

• Experience in a finance environment
• Ability to demonstrate a numerate and logical approach to problem solving
• Effective communicator used to dealing with customers and staff at all levels
• A good standard of general education

The desirable criteria for this role:

• Experience of a computerised accounting system
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to intermediate level (Word, and Excel)
• Direct experience within a similar role in either a Housing Directorate, Accounting environment or equivalent

Salary: Starting at £19,834 per annum with annual increments to £20,952 per annum

Hours Per Week: Permanent, Full Time - 37 Hours per week
