Assistant Finance Manager


Location: Flexible - will need to attend Ross on Wye office

For our organisation to be effective and meet our ambitions to make healthy seas that everyone can enjoy, we need to have strong financial accountability, and robust processes that work. Our Finance Team is part of the foundations of our organisation and has a vital purpose that touches every part of our work.

The Assistant Finance Manager will work as part of a team, responsible for month-end journals, bank reconciliations and assisting with cash forecasting. With an eye for detail, you’ll develop our processes and procedures that are clear and easy for the organisation to use, and give our new colleagues the know-how for them to make responsible decisions for our finances in all that they do.

Our work is varied and interesting and our team is determined to create change for the future of our oceans. You’ll support our applications for funding, providing information for grant claims and project delivery milestones.

Technical Knowledge:

Working towards Qualified accountant or have an Accounting Technician qualification or equivalent practical experience. Confident and with expertise with accounting software packages, and using MS Teams, Office (excelling at Excel, as you might imagine!) and purchase order systems. Knowledge of accounting for VAT (and understanding how that has an impact in a charity would be an advantage).

Best practice:

Able to work through problems, and sticking-points, and can analyse data so it can be explained well to non-financial colleagues. Looks to develop our processes for excellent financial robustness, as well as efficiency and ease of access by our team.
