Family & Volunteer Coordinator - Part Time

Stonehouse, Gloucestershire

One-year contract with a view to continuation subject to funding.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person with great initiative to work as part of our thriving team. The candidate should have excellent personal and communication skills, have parenting experience and understanding of family support and running groups.

Outline of role

As a family and volunteer coordinator you will be working with both referred families and with volunteers.  There are four existing coordinators working already within this role and this new post will help to meet the ever increasing demand both in the Stroud District and in Gloucester City. You will need to drive and have your own car in order to home visit families across these two localities. 

Your role will involve the training and ongoing supervision of volunteers alongside a coordinating role in supporting local families with pre-school aged children. You will contact and assess the needs of referred families and, if appropriate, introduce them to a volunteer who will visit the family, in their own home, on a weekly basis.  You will review and supervise this support from the beginning to the end.  Keeping in regular contact with both the family and the volunteer.  If there is not a suitable volunteer available you may provide additional support to the family yourself until a suitable volunteer is found.  As the coordinator you will be responsible for liaising with all professionals and services working alongside a family being supported by a Home-Start volunteer or one of our groups.  You will, from time to time, attend team around the child/family meetings, CIN meetings and CP meetings.

You will also work closely with the groups office and refer families into one of our groups.  Part of your role will be to run one termly ante-natal group (Best-Start) which is a six week course.

The role requires someone able to multi-task and priorities demands on a daily basis.

Responsible to Scheme Manager

Purposes of the job

• To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families within the Home-Start model and ethos.
• To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the scheme’s work.
• Implement good child protection practice in all areas of work
• To contribute to the effective day to day operation of the scheme in accordance with the Home-Start Memorandum & Articles of Association, Home-Start, Standards & Methods of Practice, Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards.

Main Responsibilities

Support for families

• Receiving referrals and assessing needs of families. across Stroud and Gloucester.
• Introducing families to appropriate support.
• Ensuring support to families is reviewed at regular intervals and at the end of Home-Start support, in line with current Home-Start guidance
• To attend professional group meetings when necessary in order to support families and promote good working relationships with other agencies working alongside the family.
• To undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.

Managing Volunteers

• Recruiting, selecting and preparing suitable volunteers.
• Matching and introducing volunteers to families.
• Providing support, supervision and initial and on-going training opportunities for volunteer

Running groups

• Working with the Group lead coordinator to help run post-natal groups.
• Introducing families who attend the groups to appropriate further support.
• Setting-up, running and evaluating group sessions.
• Ensuring support to families is reviewed in line with current Home-Start guidance
• To undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.

Supporting the work of the scheme

• Undertaking work as delegated by the Manager to support the strategic management, development and future funding of the scheme.
• Supporting the implementation and review of all Home-Start policies and procedures.
• Complying with the scheme’s administration, monitoring and financial systems.
• Promoting the work of the scheme, as required by the Manager.
• Contributing to and supporting the development of the Home-Start network locally, regionally and nationally.

Working in Partnership

• Ensuring appropriate liaison with referrers and other professionals
• Networking appropriately within the community.

The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above.
