The Volunteer Co-Ordinator role is important to both our Organisation and our Wellbeing Project Team.  

GL Communities - Job Description & Person Specification  

Title:                   Volunteer Co-Ordinator

Responsible to:  CEO

Liaison with        4 themed areas of work

Based at:              Phoenix Community Centre

Salary:                   £9.50 per hour

Working hours:     Part time 16 hours per week flexible

Tenure:                   Temporary post 5 months
The Volunteer Co-Ordinator will play a vital role by supporting our volunteer program and providing ongoing support to volunteers.
This role is the main point of contact for our volunteers.

Key Duties and responsibilities of role:
Representing GL Communities:
Representing GL Communities as an ambassador at events, exhibitions, open days, meetings, press events and fundraisers etc.
Recruitment & Selection:

  • Working with every team at GL Communities to support their work around recruiting volunteers as needed
  • Recruiting volunteers from a diverse range of sources,
  • Developing Job roles & Person Specifications for roles required
  • Advertising roles via; Facebook Twitter GL Communities website and other recruitment sites
  • Interviewing volunteers, completing all relevant pre-employment checks e.g., References, DBS Checks, etc.
  • Matching Knowledge skills, experience, and expectations of volunteers to available positions
  • Creating a volunteer team for ITC for the IT suite daily to support learning and connecting through DIF 1 participants and residents
  • Develop the shared learning and activities for DIF with the volunteers and participants 

Volunteer Development:

  • Deliver Induction training to all new volunteers on a rolling process each month – core
  • Develop and manage policies, procedures, and standards for volunteers
  • Support training and development of all volunteers throughout their placement with the support of the themed lead worker
  • Arrange training and education opportunities
  • Develop and support mentoring schemes and personal development plans of volunteers
  • Liaise with CEO and Management team and other staff to match resources to service demands organising volunteers, delegating projects and tasks

Volunteer Reward & Recognition

  • Develop ways to reward and to recognise the contributions of our volunteers – Annual Award ceremony adjacent to the AGM
  • Develop the Rewards and recognition through social media, local media etc.
  • Develop and support Volunteer communication through newsletters social media and other applications e.g. What’s app

Person Specification:

  • Good communication skills able to communicate with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Networking skills
  • Sociable, self-confident, and approachable
  • Reliable and honest
  • A good knowledge of the local community desirable (but not essential)
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently but with guidance and support from others
  • Professional and courteous telephone manner
  • ITC desirable
  • An interest in community development and the services that GL Communities provides

• To grow the number of volunteers in Gloucester/shire, giving them the best possible experiences of support and supporting GL Communities in their themed areas of work.
• To create the feeling of a dynamic volunteer team within Gloucester/shire, through regular communication with volunteers, organising meetings and fundraisers.
• To generate income through fundraising activities which will enable us to provide improved services to the communities we serve.
• To raise awareness of the services that GL Communities provides, Advice and Advocacy, Well-Being and Social Inclusion, Education and Employability and Community & Economic Development
