Lead Vehicle Technician

The Role of a Lead Vehicle Technician

In this role, you will join our established Workshop team reporting to the Workshop Controller and will be confident in managing work process controls, ensuring that Inspections, warranty repairs and service/mechanical repairs run smoothly through the Workshop in order to meet KPI’s and maximise efficiency. You will be fully supported by our Workshop Controller on a day to day basis. This role will see you supporting the Workshop Technicians on a daily basis in a productive capacity carrying out your own repairs, services and inspections with the responsibility of maintaining the progress of all jobs.  

Main purpose of the job

  • Controlling the daily workflow requirements in line with the targets set, quality standards required and Customer SLA’s / KPI’s.
  • Utilising internal systems and procedures to a proficient standard to include
  • Promoting and maintaining effective communications with different teams to ensure that all workflow is seamlessly maintained.
  • Specifically liaise with the Parts Controller to ensure that all parts ordered are proactively allocated to the relevant job or promptly returned to the Parts Dept. for credit.
  • Escalating any delays with work progress or staff issues to your Line Manager.
  • Reporting any sub-standard work identified to your Line Manager.
  • Ensuring that Manufacturer’s Warranty Procedures are adhered to and processed effectively.
  • Supporting the training and development of Operative and Apprentice Technicians.
  • Competent use of diagnostic equipment to perform diagnostic testing and identify faults
  • Ability to draw upon past experience to troubleshoot current issues
  • Conducting servicing and repairs to many different types of vehicles

Key Skills, Experience, Industry-specific Requirements, Qualifications and Desired Behaviours:

In order to be successful in this role, you will need to have at least 3 years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician and ideally be qualified to a Master Technician level. Experience in managing work progress is desirable but not essential, but you will need to be motivational, have good planning and organisational skills, aware of organisational costs and communicate effectively.

You must:

  • Have knowledge of all types of vehicles
  • Hold relevant qualification and/or a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, ideally Master Technician level
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continued learning by participating in on-going training and any other industry related training requirements
  • Be able to meet targets and deadlines
  • Have the ability to work effectively in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements and legislation
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all members of staff


  • 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm
