Part Time Finance Manager

Gloucester

Salary – FTE £35,000 - £40,000 (25 hours)

About our organisation

Gloucestershire Engineering Training has been providing work-based learning in engineering for 40 years. We train apprentices in Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, Welding & Fabrication and also offer a dual skill programme for those employers who require multi-skilled individuals.

We are the only training facility in the County that is run by the Manufacturing & Engineering industry for the Engineering Industry. We currently provide training services to the biggest engineering and manufacturing organisations within Gloucestershire across a diverse range of engineering specialisms from aeronautical to intelligent communication systems; from the production of drill bits to credit cards.

We provide learners with the basic underpinning knowledge and skills required across all facets of engineering within their first year of training, and then focus on their chosen career pathway or specialism once the learners have returned to their employer's premises.

Our vision is to be the hub of Engineering Training Expertise in the county and we strongly believe that this cannot be achieved without high quality and dedicated members of staff.

We currently employ 60 members of staff out of our purpose built training facility on Corinium Avenue in Barnwood, Gloucester.

About the person

We are looking for an individual who has either:

Minimum Level 3 (Ideally Level 4) AAT or equivalent with significant practical experience in a similar role and/or environment

OR

A Chartered Accountancy Qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)

Able to manage a varied workload, balancing scheduled tasks with requests for assistance from the team, which may have short deadlines

Self-motivated, punctual, reliable, able to maintain confidentiality

Exceptional organisation, planning and administration skills

Highly computer literate: confident and proficient with, Excel, Outlook, and data entry

Line management experience and an understanding of apprenticeships/post 16 education
would be an advantage.

About the role

The position of Finance Manager will take responsibility for the provision of financial advice, support and guidance to the company. Working with the support of a Finance Coordinator and a Finance Administrator (part time) this role will report to the CEO.

Main aim:

To provide strategic financial advice, support and guidance to the CEO, Operations Director, SMT, Finance Committee and Board to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial operations of the company.

Production of the Financial Strategy (incorporating Budgets/Forecasts etc., with the aim of informing and advising the CEO and the Board).

Duties include:

Responsible for overseeing the production of monthly and bi-monthly financial reports.

Responsible for the management, interpretation and analysis of the reports, and presentation and explanation to relevant staff (CEO, Operations Director, SMT, Finance Committee and/or Board) to enable informed strategic decisions to be made.

Ownership of the Annual Budget through liaison with the CEO, Operations Director and Members of the SMT. Identification of issues, reviewing, updating and reporting.

Presentation and explanation of financial data and KPI's to SMT, Finance Committee and the Board as required.

Reconciliation of ESFA funding to include financial forecasting and reforecasting, review of budget vs actual and explanation and analysis of variances.

Line management responsibilities for the Finance Team, managing their day to day workload, providing support and guidance and carrying out 1-2-1 and appraisals.

Manage, co-ordinate and advise on financial audits by external bodies (for example, Ofsted, auditors), including meetings with Accountants, Senior Managers and the Finance Committee. Liaise with Board Members to ensure timely production of the Year End Accounts.

Exploration and analysis of funding opportunities for expansion and growth.

Ensuring financials are aligned to lending criteria and presentation of such financials as required.

Responsible for the production of the Companies House annual return and the production of ONS return.

Manage, maintain and oversee arrangements for Employee payroll and Benefits in liaison with HR.

Ensure security of all financial data with support of IT and rest of Finance team, in line with GDPR.

In liaison with the Team Leader, responsible for the production of the Apprenticeship Training and Service Level Contracts for Apprenticeships, HNC/HND etc., and producing Payment Plans and Schedules.

Responsible for the production and distribution of the annual Fees & Charges (in liaison with the CEO).

Responsible for the production of financial 3-5-year forecasts

Prepare information for and/or attend relevant internal and external meetings.

Salary

The full time Salary for this position will be within the range of £35,000 to £40,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.

Pro rata based on the 25 hours week leading to an actual salary range of £24,137 - £27,586.

This is a permanent position.
 

Hours of Work

For a full time employee normal hours of work are 36.25 per week. These are based on Monday to Thursday 0800hrs – 1615hrs, with an early finish on a Friday 0800hrs – 1315hrs.

This position is 25 hours per week. Actual days/hours of work are flexible and will be subject to agreement between the successful candidate and GET.

Location
Our purpose built training facility is based on Corinium Avenue in Barnwood, Gloucester, within easy reach of the main road networks. GL4 3HX. There is free staff parking on site.

Probationary Period

All staff are subject to a 6 month probationary period during which your manager will assess and review your work performance.
