HR Operations Team Leader - FTC to end of year - Ref 68537

Our HR Team is mainly based out of our Cheltenham office and provides a full HR service to the Firm (over 1000 people) from 5 specialist hubs: Reward, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Employee Relations and Operations.

This role is a fixed-term contract to cover an internal secondment by another member of the team which will be until the end of the year in the first instance.

About the role:

HR Operations Team Leader will take responsibility for ensuring an excellent operational service is delivered to the firm and is responsible for coaching and managing 3 HR Operations assistants. It demands adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Key tasks will include:

  • Provide management and guidance to direct reports in the Operations team to ensure consistent administration of company policies and standards; define and implement any corrective actions needed to meet operations performance
  • Ensure a high level of service is provided to the business by ensuring that queries are dealt with and responded to in a timely manner
  • Oversee and develop all day-to-day operational processes to achieve efficiency gains
  • Ensure the HR team is compliant with the standards set out in the Business Management System and legal obligations.
  • Carry out actions following internal and external audits where appropriate
  • Oversee day-to-day running of HR operations to ensure activities are carried out and sufficient cover is in place
  • Line manager responsibilities including operational hub meetings and general day-to-day operational progress meetings and managing performance to ensure that team members are performing effectively, identifying development needs, providing coaching and training where necessary
  • Lead on maintaining and ensuring adherence to Information Security procedures and activities in accordance to BW’s Information Security Policy
  • Compiling and delivering communications to the business as and when appropriate to deliver key messages.
  • Implement best practices and ensure that quality of service is delivered to internal and external clients, drive consistent performance, evaluate staffing needs and make adjustments to meet changing requirements
  • Ensure the Operations team are able to support other Hub areas with operational activities
  • Support the Employee Relations Hub Leader with project work which will include activities associated with employee engagement, wellbeing and HR Communications

About the person:

  • In order to effectively support our growing firm, we are looking for a candidate who is used to a fast-paced and changing environment.  The right candidate will be an experienced HR operations supervisor or team leader who enjoys being hands-on with both staff supervision and operations tasks
  • Highly organised - the tasks undertaken by the Operations team underpin the work of the other HR hubs so we are looking for evidence of working in a similar role where priorities change and there is a high volume of work, which you've had to supervise
  • Staff supervision - you must have previous supervisory experience
  • Systems skills - the work our Operations team undertakes is very process-driven and uses a combination of a custom-built HR system and MS Office Suite. We'd expect you to have good system skills and advanced experience of Word and Excel etc
  • Efficiency-driven - we're really very keen to improve our processes in order to meet the demands of the business so we'd like to see candidates who've implemented system or process changes in a previous or current role

And finally,

  • We'll need to see a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/5 or higher
  • If you have a CIPD qualification this would be an advantage but not essential
  • Proven understanding of Operational team management and information systems maintenance
