JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Senior IT Technician
CONTRACT DETAILS:
SALARY SCALE: SCP 24 (£30,024) to SCP 28 (£33,699)
HOURS: 37 hours per week : Full time, (Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.00pm, Friday 8.00am -3.30pm)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
In collaboration with the ICT Network Manager, lead on the development, maintenance, and support of the school’s ICT systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and effective for use by staff and pupils. The Senior ICT Technician will oversee day-to-day technical operations, provide advanced technical support, and play a key role in shaping the school’s ICT strategy in collaboration with senior leadership. The role also includes media support for the school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To take a lead role in maintaining, developing, and improving the school’s IT resources to ensure safe, effective use by pupils and staff
• To provide expert support and guidance to staff and pupils in the effective and appropriate use of IT.
• To deliver advanced first, second, and third-line technical support across all IT, telecoms, and AV equipment, resolving issues independently where possible
• To oversee the installation and configuration of the new IT equipment, operating systems and software, delegat-ing tasks where appropriate
• To manage network access rights, including creating, auditing, and disabling user accounts, and ensuring compliance with school policies
• To lead on daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance routines, system checks, and fault investigations, ensuring effective resolution and minimal disruption
• To oversee the provision and technical support of IT equipment for assemblies, meetings, and other school-wide events
• To coordinate the preparation of IT resources for open evenings and other events, including those requiring out- of-hours support
• To ensure the effective maintenance and repair of IT equipment, liaising with third-party maintenance providers and escalating issues as necessary
• To diagnose and resolve complex workstation, operating system, and software problems, providing technical leadership and guidance to junior technicians
• As part of the ICT team, take responsibility for the school’s backup routines and contribute to business continuity planning and disaster recovery processes
• To help provide the safe storage, handling, and disposal of equipment, materials, and hazardous waste in line with regulations and school procedures
• To manage stock records, including annual stock takes, equipment loans, and procurement, ensuring timely ordering and accurate inventory management
• To oversee the maintenance of the fixed asset register for ICT, ensuring accurate reporting and accountability
• To maintain and update the school’s ICT knowledge base on SharePoint, ensuring documentation is accurate and accessible
• To provide guidance and support to teaching staff in their use of ICT, and undertake additional duties and responsibilities commensurate with a senior role
• To oversee ICT support in classrooms, including equipment bookings and ensuring timely delivery and setup of devices
• To lead in the maintenance and installation of the school’s CCTV systems, liaising with third-party providers where necessary
• To lead in the maintenance and installation of the school’s access control systems and associated peripherals, working with third-party providers as required
• To ensure all ICT processes and practices comply with Data Protection and GDPR requirements
• To lead on the planning and delivery of staff IT training, supporting digital upskilling and effective technology use across the school
• To oversee ICT provision for school exams, ensuring all systems are fully operational, resources are in place,
and immediate technical support is available during exam sessions
• Set up, operate, and maintain audio-visual and digital media equipment
• Provide technical support during events, presentations, and productions
• Working with relevant staff, record and produce high-quality video and visual content most often for the
school website
• Maintain equipment inventory, scheduling, and routine servicing
• Troubleshoot technical media issues quickly to minimise downtime
• Keep up to date with emerging media tools and industry best practices
