Business Intelligence Analyst & database Administrator


We are hiring for our Business Systems Team! We currently have a vacancy for a Business Intelligence Analyst and Database Administrator based at the Head Office in Cheltenham. 

The role would usually be based from our head office in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire however we appreciate the benefit of remote working in these uncertain times! We are able to consider hybrid working and therefore candidates based further afield are welcome to apply. However please note that you will be asked to attend the office in Cheltenham regularly, when safe to do so.

So what do you need to do?

The key purpose of the role is to implement, support, maintain and develop Commercial’s Reporting and Data warehouse.

You will:

  • Develop Business Critical Reports
  • Maintain and Support existing Business Critical Reports
  • Manipulate data using SQL
  • Be responsible for SQL Server Support, Maintenance plans and optimisation
  • Work closely with Development Team to advise on operational needs and highlight opportunities for automation
  • Manage advanced Data Warehouse support and development.
  • Manage priorities and time effectively across multiple Projects/Change Requests
  • Ensure that all requests from users are logged, updated and closed in line with operational level agreements.
  • Liaise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the business
  • Tackle problems confidently and presenting reporting and data solutions

About you:

  • You will have proven experience of SQL development, Database Administration and Reports development
  • You have got a solid background in SQL development and administration of Microsoft SQL servers
  • You are brilliant at designing and creating views/tables
  • You will need to be passionate about making technology work reliably to enable business efficiency and effectiveness
  • Your pricing analyst skills will be second to none, with experience in reacting quickly to requests with tight deadlines. There may be times we are under pressure, so enthusiasm and self-motivation to get through is essential
  • You have definitely got a passion of maintaining servers and developing data solutions, and proud of it!

If you have any of the following skills, amazing. If not, it’s not a deal breaker

  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • SQL Server Analytical Services (SSAS)
  • Power BI
  • Crystal Reports
  • Team Foundation Server (TFS)
  • Non SQL Databases

You will also have:

  • A solid understanding of Microsoft Office, Excel in particular (Macros, Formulas and ODBC Data links)
  • Proven experience of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) including Report Builder
  • The ability to manage your own workload and know how to prioritise the urgent stuff
  • Excellent debugging and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve technical problems with simple solutions
  • Development experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2017/2019
  • Strong T-SQL Skills - you are going to need to be able to create stored procedures/functions for reporting and for transforming data
