Tewkesbury School Sports Centre : Casual Weekend Duty Manager

We seek to appoint a Casual Weekend Duty Manager to join our fantastic team and are looking for a self-motivated, focused individual, with the enthusiasm and commitment to play a key role in the ongoing development of TewkesburySchool Sports Centre.

Weekend work will be available on a shift basis with occasional evenings if required to suit the needs of the Sports Centre. We are able to guarantee a minimum set of hours per week if requested.

You will be responsible for the management of the centre and will also assist in a wide variety of management functions such as; promoting health and safety, taking bookings, handling cash, cleaning, marketing, ensuring the safety of all visitors and developing customer relations.

A National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is essential but we can support you to gain the NPLQ qualificationon request. You must be 18 years or over, have the ability to communicate well and be committed to customer care.

Tewkesbury School Sports Centre is based in the grounds of Tewkesbury School. It is a Dual Use centre, which means that the school students use the facilities during school hours and the wider community can use the facilities in the evenings, weekends and school holidays.

Job Title: Casual Duty Manager

Purpose of Job: The Duty Managers play a crucial part in the day to day operations of the Sports
Centre and form part of the Sports Centre Team, which is collectively responsible for the effective delivery of a range of services throughout the facilities. The Duty Management Team work within a shift pattern which includes working evenings and weekends.

Working Pattern: Hours to be dependent on Sports Centre needs and availability, worked on a rota basis including weekend and evenings. Flexibility is required to cover the full range of shifts.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To actively manage and develop and motivate a team of operational staff.

To be responsible for the day to day duty management and running of the leisure centre to the highest standard.

To be a proactive member of the leisure centre team

Centre Health & Safety

Support the team in ensuring the health and safety of the Sports Centre facilities, ensuring safe working best practices and compliance with legislation, including The Health & Safety at Work Act and COSHH Regulations

Support the management of the pool plant operation, ensuring regular maintenance tasks and KPI checks are under- taken according to schedule

Supervise completion of KPIs and daily tasks by the leisure team, carrying out daily checks on all facilities ensuring the building is safe, clean and fit for use by customers. Ensure the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses are done in a timely manner

Ensure reporting of any hazards, damage or maintenance issues to the Estates team.

Resource Management
Support an efficient and high-performing team to ensure the rota is proactively staffed, shifts are clearly communicated.

Provide effective leadership and management of Recreation Assistants and Swimming Instructors

Operations
Supervise or undertake equipment set up and take downs according to the programme of activities

Be responsible for the security of the building and equipment and to act as a key holder

Support the delivery of excellent customer service via an efficient duty management service, dealing with enquiries and bookings, and collecting customer feedback

Be available to work to an early or late shift rota to ensure lifeguard and duty manager cover is available while the Leisure Centre is open, 7 days a week including weekends

Ensure your training and competence is achieved and maintained across the board, taking responsibility for your ongoing professional development

Cover lifeguard and teaching shifts where there are gaps to ensure ongoing operations

Other Responsibilities

Undertake other duties as required to be carried out that may reasonably be considered to be part of running a successful Sports Centre

Be committed to and actively promote Tewkesbury School Sports Centre policies and procedures to value and respect diversity and inclusion in all aspects of duties and working relationships

Essential:

Education and Experience

  • Current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • Swimming Teacher Qualification
  • Experience of problem solving, customer service and staff management
  • Experience in working in the Leisure sector
  • Experience working in a Duty Management or similar role

Desirable:

  • NVQ in Leisure or Operations Management or similar
  • Pool Plant Operator Certificate
  • First Aid at Work Certificate

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Commercial awareness which translates into con- tributing to a successful and financially viable operation
  • A passion for the industry demonstrated through continuous professional development
  • General computer user skills
  • Strong people management skills
  • An understanding of identifying staff training & development requirements and identifying development opportunities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

  • An awareness of industry developments, new activities, trends and research
  • Experience of operating a pool plant – training will be given

Personal Abilities

  • Team orientated approach and able to demonstrate interest in and be supportive of the work of staff and colleagues
  • To be able to work flexibly with a level of self-motivation and a willingness to learn
  • Able to think on your feet and respond to variable demands with an ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Good organisational skills
  • Committed to improving the lives of children and young people

Salary: £10.78 per hour including annual leave
