Aims

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clothing Department Manager who is experienced in retail and has a true passion for clothing and a desire to help set up a new venture in our Superstore in Cirencester.

The Charity has established nine shops (Cam Charity Furniture, Stroud, Nailsworth, Wotton, Cirencester, Cirencester Furniture & Homeware, Tetbury Charity Furniture Emporium, Tetbury Market Place & Fairford). Income generated through our shops is used to support the charitable work of the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, ensuring that every vulnerable animal in our community has a safe space and no animal is left to suffer because of cost. Our shops work to a set of agreed financial targets and our aim is to ensure that we maximise the value of all donated stock to achieve and exceed these targets.

Main purpose of job

To be responsible for the clothing department and to assist the Superstore Manager to achieve agreed sales and profit targets whilst minimising costs and maintaining a strong presence in the high street to benefit the charity.  To assume full responsibility for all aspects of the shop and departments in the absence of the Superstore Manager & Furniture Department Manager.

The post-holder will have a cheerful, confident and friendly approach. You will have good communication and organisational skills with a genuine desire to provide an excellent service to all shop users.  You will have a keen eye for detail as the handling of cash and maintenance of systems forms a key part of this role. This role is broad based and you will be expected to be able to manage several different tasks simultaneously and actively contribute to the smooth functioning of the shop

Essential skills and experience

• Experience of working in a retail environment
• Achieving success against sales and profit targets

• Cash handling and reconciliation

• Computer literate with experience of Outlook and use of the internet
• Full Clean Driving Licence

Duties

• Assist with achieving agreed sales targets and maximise profit.
• Ensure that effective systems are in place to achieve the agreed processing targets in order to maintain shop density levels
• Ensure that goods in the shop are priced appropriately
• Maintain a high standard of merchandising
• Minimise stock loss
• Assist with recruiting volunteers and provide training
• Ensure the shop is adequately staffed with volunteers during the agreed opening times
• Motivate volunteers to achieve the shops full potential
• Comply with financial and administrative procedures within agreed timescales
• Accurately input shop data for takings, banking and Gift Aid
• Ensure that a high level of customer service is maintained in the shop
• Ensure the safe and secure handling of money and security of the premises and stock at all times
• Assist with building relationships with the local community to raise awareness of The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home and to generate quality donated goods
• Ensure high standards of cleanliness in all areas of the shop premises
• Ensure the shop meets standards required by Health & Safety, DDA, Trading Standards and Fire Regulations legislation
• Identify repairs/renovations which may be needed, ensure that they are remedied
• Work as part of the Retail team to provide cover at other shops when required
• Attend training sessions and meetings when required

Accountable to: Retail Operations Manager

Supervised by: Superstore Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours per week flexible Monday to Sunday based on a 7.5 hour day with a half hour unpaid lunch break.

The post is entitled to 28 days pro-rata paid holiday leave per annum (including public holidays).

Enrolment into Employer Contributory Pension scheme provided by Creative Pensions Trust following 3 months employment

Please note that all offers of employment require:

• References deemed satisfactory to the Home
• Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

All new employees to the charity will be subject to a six month probationary period.
We are unable to allow staff to bring their own dogs with them to work.
