Teacher of Art (Maternity Cover)

Cheltenham

We wish to appoint an Art Teacher (temporary maternity cover) to join our Academy.  Applications are sought from enthusiastic and dedicated teachers of Art to join this highly successful and thriving department.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking, inspiring and energetic teacher with a real passion for Art.   You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual who has the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students.

ECT applications welcome.  The position will be 0.5-0.8FTE or we can offer a full-time position to the right candidate.  Start date is 1st September 2021 until April 2022 in the first instance (with the possibility of extending the contract to August 2022)

Pate’s combines a relaxed atmosphere with academic rigour, and the pupils are a pleasure to teach.  The school has superb facilities in new buildings on a spacious site.  The department is well resourced. We recognise that our staff are the most important reason for the school’s success.

Application by covering letter and Pate’s application form.  Application forms along with further details about both the department and the school are available on the website by clicking on Apply Now or from Francesca Coppola, PA to Head Master, via the details to the right of this advert.

Closing Date: 9.00am Wednesday 26th May. Early applications are encouraged as we will review applications as we receive them and applicants may be contacted before the closing date.

The Art Department

• The Art Department consists of two large all purpose art rooms, a 3D room, two Sixth form studios, dark room, gallery area, materials store, two kilns, large printing press, a library and staff office.
• There is a large, purpose-built art gallery near the entrance to the school which provides opportunities to exhibit student and other artists work.
• The department has a number of computers which are connected to a colour printer and scanner which is housed in the Art Department.  Each computer has access to the Internet.
• The Art Department has its own colour photocopier.
• Photoshop is installed on the system and the department has its own digital cameras.
• The department consists of the Head of Art, a part time art teacher and a part time art technician.
• Both staff teach across the age range from 11 - 18.
• Life drawing classes form part of the A level course.
• Gallery visits and drawing trips are organised to stimulate ideas and coursework projects in term time and the department aims to take every year group on a trip at some point during the school year.
• We currently follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE and the OCR syllabus for A level Art. Students are encouraged to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach and are given the freedom and support to develop their individual ideas from an early stage.
• Results in the department are high – in 2019 81.3% of A level students achieved an A* or A grade

The Candidate

We are looking for:

• A well-qualified graduate who can teach the subject up to Year 11 and to the highest academic level.
• There is the possibility of 6th form teaching for the right candidate.
• Someone who is able to embrace a broad art, craft and design curriculum to encourage students’ creativity.
• Someone who can engage students with the subject and open up new possibilities to them.
• Someone who can work well in a team.
• Someone who will enjoy the life of a busy school

The post might well suit a recently qualified teacher looking to develop their teaching skills within a strongly academic environment. It might also be a good appointment for a more experienced colleague.
