About the Cotswold Canals Trust

The Cotswold Canals Trust is a charity run by volunteers from the local community, giving time and energy to save our heritage and improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone.

This is a Trustee position meaning you will be legally responsible for a charity’s management and administration.  Trustees meet once a month (excluding August and January) to take collective decisions on policy and strategy and identify opportunities for progressing the charity’s objectives.

Objective:

To coordinate and plan the recruitment, induction and retention of volunteers for all aspects of our activities.

Specific activities:

Understand the volunteer roles available and the volunteers interests.

Centralised recruitment of all volunteers to ensure that we have a clear understanding of the skills that they bring to the organisation, their time availability and any particular needs.

An induction process that ensures that all volunteers are aware of the strategic aims of the Trust, the history of the canals, the management structure and the expectations we have of all volunteers.

Consistent communication of Trust policies and topical news items to all volunteers.

A regular review of current and future volunteer requirements to enable recruitment as necessary.

Development of younger and more diverse volunteer groups.

Ensure our volunteers are appreciated and recognised.

Establishment of links with local businesses and organisations to communicate the volunteering opportunities that we have.

At a glance

Work will be based at home, our Head Office in Stroud and along the length of the Cotswold Canals between Saul Junction and Lechlade. 

We estimate the average minimum time for this role will be 7 hours per week in addition to attending monthly Trust Council meetings currently held on the first Wednesday of the month between 4 and 6.30pm (excluding January& August).

This position is not remunerated.
