Job Description

The Management Accountant will provide accurate financial information, analysis, and reports to support management decision-making. This is a new role within Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS), requiring independent thinking and the ability to challenge processes.

Reporting to Head of Finance & Operations

Located at Head office – Stroud – hybrid working.

Renumeration £35,000 Full Time Equivalent (£14,000 pro rata)

Hours 14 hours per week (negotiable)

Term 1-year Fixed Term (March 26 - Feb 27)

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and explain variances against budget.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Develop the reporting process to ensure each department has accurate and timely management reports.
  • Support Head of Finance & Operations with development of policies, processes, and procedures to ensure robust, efficient and effective cost controls.
  • Support the finance team with monthly payroll submissions (100+employees) to ensure correct information for pay and reporting, including processing the monthly payroll journal.
  • Support with day-to-day financial administration processes.
  • Assist with the annual budget preparation.
  • Support with the annual accounts and audit file. Aid the auditors during the independent examination process and with the preparation of the annual accounts.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA/ AAT) part of fully.
  • Or qualified by experience.

Experience & Knowledge

  • 5 years plus proven experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning, preferably in voluntary and charitable sector.
  • Experience and knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability in financial software and tools, Xero & Excel

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skilled in using financial and other data to steer organisational activity and performance.
  • Exceptional communication and people skills.
