We are recruiting a Professional Standards Adviser to join our Professional Standards Department within Gloucestershire Constabulary. This is a job-share role working 18.5 hours per week, Wednesday (pm), Thursday and Friday (full days) although there must be flexibility to work additional hours as required particularly at busy times and to cover annual leave etc. This is a 12 month FTC.
This is a unique role which will require you to be robust, feel comfortable questioning the decisions of others, provide guidance and advice and work to tight deadlines. You will need to be able to demonstrate a proven ability to understand complex legislation and lead in shaping new processes. You will also need to be able to write complex legally based letters. Ideally, you would have some knowledge of the police complaints and misconduct legislation or procedures.
The post holder will have responsibility for preparing files, on behalf of the Appropriate Authority, for police misconduct proceedings which will involve working with Legally Qualified Chairs, Barristers and senior police officers. The post holder must be able to work to deadlines, have effective time management and organisational skills and be someone who pays attention to the smallest of details; the post holder will also be responsible for overseeing the database that holds all public complaint and misconduct data.
The successful candidate will need to be able to understand complicated legislation about complaints and misconduct and provide advice and guidance.
The successful candidate will need to be able to produce evidential bundles to an exceptionally high standard and liaise with the legally qualified chair.
The successful candidate for this role will be vetted at level Staff MV. This means the individual will need at least 5 years worth of residency in the UK.
