About The Role

An opportunity to join WWT's Major Projects team delivering landscape scale coastal wetland restoration in the Severn Estuary.

We are looking for a Site Manager with experience of working with landowners, contractors, farmers, graziers  and local communities to  undertake agricultural and other management and maintenance of sites from WWT's first site involvement through to delivery of the final large scale restoration project.

You will be responsible for working with all local stakeholders ensuring sites are managed and maintained appropriately before and during early site investigations, the planning and design periods and on to major capital works, including supervising consultants and contractors while on site. Working with volunteers and consultants the role will extend to establishing and delivering baseline monitoring of site habitats, wildlife and other measures, and undertaking early practical conservation works. As part of a wider multi-skilled team you will also have the opportunity to feed into project planning, design and construction bringing key advice on the needs of future practical conservation management and maintenance.

This is a fixed term contract for 3 years, with the possibility of extension depending on future opportunities, working full time, 37.5 hours per week, 5 days in 7.

About You

We are looking for a practically minded and experienced conservation site manager with an understanding of  nature-based and more agricultural management.   You will have experience of working closely with land owners, farmers, graziers, local communities, supervising consultants and contractors, and of setting up and implementing baseline site monitoring of wildlife and other environmental measures.

You will be personable and a strong communicator, able to advocate your work to a wide range of stakeholders and to be build positive relationships with staff, volunteers and local communities.  You will be able to apply a deep understanding of wildlife management and infrastructure needs to the design of new habitats and an ability to think out of the box and provide practical solutions to sometimes unusual and complex site based issues.

The role will require regular weekly travel to sites in the Severn Estuary, initially primarily at Awre in the Forest of Dean. While some home working may be possible, this will be variable and potentially limited depending on the demands on site.
