St James City Farm Project Manager
Gloucester
The Friendship Café is a local Gloucester based charity and community organisation working with hundreds of different people every week. Established in 2000 The Friendship Cafe provides youth and community-based activities, focusing mainly but not exclusively on young people, children and families in the inner-city and surrounding areas of Gloucester City, although our users come from many diverse backgrounds and from all over the City and County. We have a vibrant community centre at the old Chequers Bridge Centre and have a regular calendar of activities both onsite and off.
One of the projects we run is the St James City Farm which is based in the heart of Barton and Tredworth. Although small in size, it adds an incredible amount of benefit to communities and residents of Gloucester. The aim of St James City Farm is to not just to provide a recreational and visitor experience for families, but to also connect the tremendous talent in the city with the many opportunities in training, employment and leisure found in the countryside. We do this by providing hands on practical farming experiences and acting as a gateway, building knowledge and creating aspirations so inner-city children and families can have fun, learn and benefit from interaction with animals and nature.
We are currently seeking someone with experience and excitement for the position of project manager at the St James City Farm

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- To identify any health and behavioural problems of the animals and act accordingly to always ensure minimal stress and the wellbeing of the animals.
- To observe all Health and Safety legislation and good practice with regards to animal care.
- Lead, instruct and support staff and volunteers in the above daily animal husbandry duties.
- Manage staff and lead on safeguarding, HR and training.
- Oversee the visitor experience and activities for children and families who attend the farm and linking with the wider community.
- Work with the wider organisation of the Friendship Café to understand it’s values and deliver on it’s overall aims and objectives.
The successful candidate will be someone who has experience and qualifications within animal husbandry and care but understands that this is a community project working within an incredibly diverse community of people from all backgrounds, ages, abilities, disabilities and mental health conditions with all the opportunities and challenges that brings They need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be hands-on working with a small team of staff and volunteers. The City Farm is going through a redesign process at the moment and so this is the perfect time for someone with ambition and exciting ideas to really make a difference to this great community asset.
