Job Description

We are looking for an enterprising Café Assistant to join our amazing team of staff and volunteers at The Folk of Gloucester. Our aim is to give people the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful historic buildings, our lovingly tended gardens, and our beautiful, licensed café and bar, and cultivate our reputation as a heritage community hub.

Your main responsibilities will be:
● Assisting with the running of the café operation, including food and drink preparation
● Ensuring cleanliness of the café and kitchen, guaranteeing the café operates safely and adheres to all food hygiene regulations.
● To maintain inventory levels, working with the café team to place orders and ensure availability of supplies, and reduce waste where possible.
● To confidently handle cash and contactless sales, using our point-of-sale till system Square (training will be given if needed).
● To support the cafe volunteers to provide the best possible customer service and foster a positive team environment.
● To collaborate with the Café Team in creating seasonal menus that reflect current trends and assist our Marketing & Communications Coordinator in advertising these.
● Be prepared to assist with Civic Trust events and activities as required. This may involve some evening and/or weekend working, so a flexible approach to working times is essential.
Essential:
● An enthusiastic, reliable person who is eager to be part of a friendly team who care passionately about The Folk of Gloucester and Gloucester Civic Trust.
● Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. If you do not already have a Food Hygiene Certificate, access to the online training course will be provided.
● Experience in a customer-facing role, paid or voluntary.
Desirable:
● Previous catering or hospitality experience.
● Be able to work on Fridays and Saturdays if needed, to support our events.
● An interest in local history and a passion for Gloucester will be an advantage.

Salary: Hourly rate depending on age and experience

Hours Per Week: Part-time – 7.5 hours per week with the possibility to increase
