Mitcheldean Endowed Primary School is seeking to appoint a Caretaker to join our friendly staff team. The successful person will have key holding and security responsibilities as well as undertaking minor repair work and maintenance of the school premises. Other areas of responsibility include the regular testing of the water system, emergency lighting and fire alarm.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have a real desire to keep our pupils safe and the premises looking great. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have a range of ‘trades’ skills and knowledge that can be utilised within this role.
The contracted hours will be 15 hours (term time only). The hours will be split between the morning and afternoon, with a requirement to open up at 7.30-8.00am. Ideally, the successful candidate will be back on site at 3.30pm and will lock the school at 6pm. However, some flexibility is possible within these hours and these can be discussed prior to application or at interview.
In addition, the equivalent of 4 weeks work (60 hours) will be required across school holidays and as needed within the school term. The successful candidate will be required to start the post as soon as possible.
The Role
-Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and well-maintained.
-Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks.
-Managing site security, including opening and locking up the school.
-Monitoring heating, lighting, and energy usage.
-Supporting health and safety compliance across the site.
-Working with the cleaning team to ensure standards are met.
-Liaising with contractors and supervising works when required.
-Commitment to training to ensure the safety of the school.
