Donations, Business and Marketing Intern - Paid Role
Cheltenham
About us:
The ITSA Digital Trust (ITSA) is a computer-recycling charity based in Cheltenham which gathers IT equipment from businesses around the UK so that it can be tested, refurbished and upgraded before being distributed to people in need in the UK and shipped to partner NGOs in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe for use by children in schools. To date, we have helped to provide an IT education for 6.75 million students in Africa, as well as building over 40 IT labs in schools and training over 2,000 teachers in IT. In the UK we have helped 42,000 people to gain IT skills and IT equipment. We have welcomed over 1,400 volunteers and have run a programme for ex-offenders for over a decade. We are a small, friendly team working to prevent e-waste and achieve something bigger than ourselves by offering opportunities to people who are less fortunate in the UK and in Africa.
ITSA has all the main functions of any business, including IT, warehousing, distribution, marketing, sales and accounting. You will gain first-hand experience of all of these. ITSA has extensive contact with businesses across the UK, including big-name international businesses, which you will contact directly. We are well-connected in the charity and local-government sectors. You will gain invaluable experience and contacts during your time at ITSA.

As a Donations, Business and Marketing Intern you will:
- Bring in donations of IT equipment by contacting existing donors.
- Attract new donors by researching organisations which have IT and then contacting them.
- Co-ordinate with the technical and warehouse teams about the logistics of collections, such as an appropriate date and time and organising multiple collections on a single day.
- Produce correct paperwork for donors during collections, in line with Environment Agency practice.
- Accept in-person donations that come through the door, greeting people and evaluating the suitability of the equipment that they are hoping to donate.
- Log the donations in ITSA’s database, which provides crucial information for the charity, donors and the preparation of shipments of computers to Africa.
- Help with events planning, especially related to The ITSA Digital Trust Social Value business club.
- Manage admin related to businesses’ membership of the Social Value business club.
- Undertake tasks which have been delegated to you by colleagues to help their workloads so that the core operations of The ITSA Digital Trust can continue. This broadens the tasks and activities that the work placement student will experience, including with marketing tasks such as article writing, newsletters, press releases and design tasks.
Candidates should be:

- Enthusiastic and friendly
- Hard-working
- IT literate
- Knowledgeable about business

Feedback from a previous work placement student:
“My year so far with the ITSA Digital has been extremely interesting and rewarding, and overall a great experience. The fact that it is a smaller team makes me feel far more important and gives me greater responsibility which is such a great motivator. A charity like ITSA has all the same functions as a business so I have been getting great exposure to all of them – sales/donations, marketing, finance, warehousing and supply chain, logistics etc. The charity has great links to large organisations in a lot of industries so it has been great to meet representatives from these companies and learn about their interesting roles and operations, giving me a broad knowledge of operations in companies of varying sizes. I will come back to university far more knowledgeable and experienced than when I left for this year in industry.”
This is a paid role, suitable for a student on a placement year.
