About Us
Home-Start NW Gloucestershire is a local charity supporting parents with at least one child under 5 years of age. Our aim is to provide early support to families facing the challenges and stresses of family life, including isolation, low self-esteem, and physical and mental health issues.
We offer support through our home visiting service and peer support groups, including:
- Mothers in Mind
- Bump and Me (Antenatal)
- Baby and Me (Postnatal)
Job Description
- Develop, plan, and facilitate a programme of antenatal/perinatal drop-in support groups across the Forest of Dean.
Build and maintain strong links with statutory antenatal/perinatal services, including:
- Mental health services
- Specialist perinatal mental health teams
- Midwives and health visitors
- Maintain high standards of practice in supporting families, in line with the Home-Start model.
- Promote equality, fairness, and diversity in all areas of work.
- Implement and uphold strong safeguarding practices.
Contribute to the effective operation of the scheme in accordance with:
- Home-Start’s Memorandum & Articles of Association
- Home-Start’s Standards & Methods of Practice
- Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards
- Maintain confidentiality in all contact with families.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive group referrals and assess families' needs.
- Introduce families to appropriate external support where necessary.
- Plan, run, and evaluate three weekly (term-time only, subject to change) group sessions.
- Develop our antenatal/perinatal group support programme.
- Support peer support networks through the groups.
- Assist the home-visiting team with the volunteer preparation course.
- Contribute to delivering the volunteer preparation course, as directed.
- Liaise appropriately with referrers and professionals.
- Represent Home-Start at community events and professional meetings.
Requirements / Skills & Qualifications
Must-haves
- NVQ Level 3 or above
- Experience working with children and families
- Experience delivering groups or play sessions
- Confident IT skills (Microsoft Office, email, information recording)
- Strong communication skills with professionals and referring agencies
Nice-to-have
- Knowledge of Home-Start’s ethos
- Experience managing or training volunteers
- Experience delivering training sessions
