Teckels have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and organised Shop Manager, located in Stroud, Gloucestershire. The role involves overseeing the day-to-day running of Teckels’ first Charity Shop. You will be responsible for providing a supportive team role while delivering outstanding customer service, with the aim of maximising sales and controlling direct shop expenses.

Teckels’ first Charity Shop will be an exciting opportunity for the Charity to further its efforts for sustainability and improve its engagement within the local community.

Candidates must be strong team workers, have great people skills, and the ability to motivate and engage with a variety of individuals. We are seeing an ever-increasing number of dogs and cats needing our help, so would also love to find someone who is equally as passionate about helping our cause as the rest of our wonderful team!

Job Purpose

  • To oversee the day-to-day running of the Teckels charity shop, in accordance with Teckels’ policies and procedures, with the aim of maximising sales and controlling direct shop expenses.
  • To be a Teckels ambassador, delivering outstanding customer service and team leadership.

Main Responsibilities

  • To assume overall responsibility for the day-to-day shop management and operation.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the shop including being a Key Holder, opening and closing, and ensuring the premises are secure.
  • Sorting, pricing, and handling donated and bought items of stock.
  • Develop sales promotions and unique selling strategies.
  • Maintain stock records and proactively generate more donations to ensure appropriate stock levels.
  • Create attractive window displays that are inviting to browsers.
  • Ensure that the premises are always clean and tidy.
  • Manage staff resources, including volunteers, to ensure the shop is always run efficiently.
  • Report any and all issues to the Centre Manager and work together to resolve these.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all Teckels Policies and Procedures, Risk Assessments, and legislative practice to ensure all Health & Safety practices and processes are adhered to at all times.
  • Attend meetings, including one-to-one meetings with Teckels’ Centre Manager.
  • Complete any identified training.
  • Attend all fundraising and retail events relevant to the shop and Teckels Animal Sanctuaries.
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service with a positive, motivated attitude, striving to exceed customer, donor, and public expectations – and ensuring that this attitude is adopted by all shop volunteers.

Maximise Income

  • Monitor and ensure yearly target is met.
  • Accurately maintain cash control, floats, and any banking-related activities relating to the shop.
  • Maximise income from donated items and the recycling of any unsellable items.
  • Work with the Centre Manager to set annual and monthly income and expenditure budgets.
  • Ensure the Gift Aid Scheme is utilised and all staff/volunteers understand how it works.

To motivate, inspire and empower the team with fantastic communication and a can-do attitude:

  • Ensure the level of volunteers is sufficient to open during published times and operate efficiently by focusing on effective recruitment and retention.
  • Provide ongoing training, management, and support to staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure sufficient stock is efficiently sorted to a high quality and prepared for sale.
  • Ensure stock is rotated regularly and that each department takes up the correct amount of space according to sales data.
  • Ensure the back areas are safely organised with enough stock ready for replenishment.
  • Minimise stock loss of new goods through the implementation of excellent administration procedures, including stock takes.

Administration

  • Ensure store emails are answered each day.
  • Ensure paperwork is securely stored in an orderly way in line with data protection laws.
  • Ensure accurate and proper financial procedures and banking.

The Charity

  • Actively promote Teckels initiatives and campaigns to promote awareness of the charity.
  • Raise any additional opportunities for income generation, including fundraising, with the Centre Manager.

Fulfil reasonable additional duties as are deemed necessary for the needs of the charity.
