Winchcombe

As a SEND Support worker you will be working in our Oaklands SEND Provision, providing support to students with additional needs, such as learning difficulties, physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and mental health conditions. You will be working 1:1 with children between the age of 4 years and 11 years old, supporting the outcomes from their EHCP through providing quality care, support and helping with their social, emotional, educational and behavioural development.

This position would suit someone looking for a secondary position or more part time hours on a self employed basis.

Current Sessions Times :
• Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm
• Sessions 3 hours long

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 care and support for each child, including their social, emotional and behavioural development
• Identifying any learning difficulties a child may have so they receive the right support
• Helping children cope with everyday tasks, such as eating independently
• Observing the child’s strengths and weaknesses.
• Providing strategies to help and support each child
• Developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Tracking progress and achievements
• Reporting to teachers and parents on the child’s progress
• Helping to plan lessons
• Ensuring every child’s needs are being met
• Follow nursery safeguarding procedures, ensure children are safe within the building and only collected by a known adult, escalate any concerns, and maintain confidentiality of any information regarding children, their families and staff
• Be flexible within working practices of settings to help out as needed e.g. answer phone calls, front door, help with children
• Where needed, to attend out of work hours activities e.g. staff meetings, training, parent/carer meetings

Qualifications
Essential:

• NVQ level 2 or 3 within Childcare and Education, or relevant equivalent
• Relevant qualifications in SEND
• Paediatric first aid
• Safeguarding Child Protection certificate
• Behaviour management training
• Child protection training

Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Experience:

• At least 2 years post qualification SEND experience with 4 – 11 year olds
• Knowledge about different disabilities and learning difficulties
• Practical skills of how to work and manage with children
• Knowledge of how to help children develop
• Knowledge of health and Safety procedures
• Risk assessments

Skills:

• Strong communication skills – able to communicate with children in their care as well as their parents. May need to address sensitive topics and handle difficult conversations sensitively.

• Interpersonal skills – good active listening and sensitivity so that they are identifying what the child needs and providing the right support.
