Hours:  Flexible and part-time/job share arrangements considered.
Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2029 (extension subject to funding and performance)
Location: Ow Bist Forest Community Space, Cinderford

Do you have a passion for community, a flair for communication, and a genuine belief in the power of volunteering to change lives?

FVAF (Forest Voluntary Action Forum) is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Volunteering & Communications Officer to help local organisations, community groups, and residents come together to connect, collaborate, and thrive across the Forest of Dean.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants their work to make a real difference — supporting volunteers, telling community stories, and strengthening the voluntary sector in one of the country’s most vibrant rural communities.

The Role

• Develop and sustain volunteering systems that create accessible, meaningful experiences across the Forest of Dean
• Provide person-centred support to individuals exploring volunteering, connecting them to opportunities that build confidence and skills
• Support voluntary and community groups to recruit, involve and retain volunteers effectively
• Lead monitoring and evaluation for the FODDC Volunteering SLA, demonstrating meaningful community outcomes
• Plan and deliver events and recognition campaigns that celebrate volunteering and inspire community participation
• Create engaging digital and written content — including social media, website updates, and e-communications — that amplifies community voices
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and local councils to identify opportunities for shared learning and collective impact

Who We’re Looking For

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive writing, proofreading, and presenting to diverse audiences
• A natural relationship-builder who can earn trust with volunteers, community organisations, statutory partners, and local residents
• Understanding of why people volunteer and what helps — or hinders — their ongoing engagement
• Knowledge of the voluntary and community sector, with an appreciation of strengths-based and asset-based community development
• Comfortable with digital tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress/Wix, and social media platforms
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
