Community Engagement Worker

Family Action & the Role’s Impact

At Family Action, we support people through change, challenge, or crisis—something we’ve been doing for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults, and offer practical help to families and communities.

We see the power of family to shape lives—for better or worse—so we:

  • Speak up for the importance of family in local and national policymaking
  • Amplify family voices
  • Represent the changing needs of families across the UK

As a Community Engagement Worker, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of our Children and Family Centre (C&FC) services. This includes community and stakeholder engagement, facilitating universal provision (including the community café), and being a visible, active presence in our centres, open from 8:30am to 6:00pm.

You will also help shape the Gloucestershire Family Hubs—community-rooted centres offering universal services and tailored support to families across Stroud and the Cotswolds.

Key Responsibilities

1. Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with families, community groups, voluntary and statutory services (e.g. schools, health organisations, businesses)
  • Map local assets, identify service gaps, and engage with community and parent forums
  • Contribute to the development and launch of community-led Family Hubs
  • Connect families to vital services and foster local resilience through multi-agency collaboration

2. Service Development & Delivery

  • Help design and deliver universal, open-access services (e.g. Stay & Play, Drop-ins, community café)
  • Support the implementation of universal provision and centre operations, including staffing and outreach events
  • Work alongside a bank of volunteers supporting universal and open-access services

3. Coordination, Administration & Reporting

  • Support digital and telephone-based service delivery, including troubleshooting
  • Assist in planning, monitoring, reviewing services, and preparing monthly reports
  • Produce promotional materials and represent Family Action at partnership meetings

4. Safeguarding & Professional Standards

  • Follow Family Action’s safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Participate in supervision, appraisal, and personal development
  • Promote and uphold our core values: People Focus, Can-Do Attitude, Striving for Excellence, Respect
  • Adhere to Equality, Diversity, Health & Safety, and Data Protection standards
  • Work flexibly, including occasional early, late, or weekend shifts

5. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

  • Embrace and implement our Equality & Diversity Policy in all aspects of your work
  • Positively promote inclusive principles among colleagues, service users, and partners

6. Health, Safety & Welfare

  • Comply with Family Action’s Health & Safety and Data Protection policies
  • Take responsibility for your own and others’ safety and wellbeing

7. Flexibility

  • Carry out other reasonable duties as required by the service
