Part-Time Medical Secretary/Audio Typist

We are looking to recruit a part-time Medical Secretary/Audio Typist to join our friendly, supportive, and professional administrative team here at Brockworth Surgery, a busy NHS GP practice in Gloucester.
This role is ideal for someone looking for a part-time medical admin position within a primary care or NHS GP surgery setting. You’ll be working behind the scenes, providing vital administrative and secretarial support to our GPs and healthcare professionals, helping to deliver high-quality patient care in a confidential and efficient manner.
We are looking for one part-time position of 20 hours per week to perform a variety of duties within our Admin office.
Ideally working the following with some flexibility of start/finish times:
Monday or Friday: 08:00 – 16:30
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: remaining hours split
30 minute lunches on all three days.
Key Responsibilities
As our Medical Secretary, you will be responsible for a variety of administrative and secretarial tasks, including:
• Audio typing using digital dictation
• Processing referrals via NHS e-Referral Service (formerly Choose & Book)
• Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence
• Liaising with hospitals, consultants, and other healthcare professionals
• Handling confidential patient information in line with NHS Information Governance
• Maintaining accurate records and supporting the smooth running of the practice
• Providing general administrative support to GPs and the Practice Management team
Skills & Experience Required
We’re looking for someone with:
• Strong administration and secretarial experience within a healthcare or office setting
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office 365
• Fast and accurate audio typing skills (experience with digital dictation desired)
• Familiarity with NHS systems such as SystmOne (desirable)
• Understanding of the e-Referral Service/Choose & Book (desirable)
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• A flexible, organised, and proactive approach to daily tasks
• A team-player attitude, with the ability to work independently
• A strong sense of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism
