About the Role
GELS plays an important role in supporting the care sector in Gloucestershire. We are responsible for the distribution, delivery, collection, maintenance and minor adaptations of medical equipment to support people being discharged from hospital and to help people to remain independent in their own home. The service is delivered on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council and One Gloucestershire.
As Driver Support, you will help keep the service running smoothly by transporting medical equipment between GELS sites and supporting the upkeep of our vehicle fleet. This practical, hands-on role combines driving, basic vehicle maintenance and workshop support.
Working as part of the wider Logistics Team, you will take pride in maintaining high standards, keeping accurate records and ensuring vehicles are safe, clean and ready for use. This is a varied role within an established and supportive team, where your work will contribute to an essential countywide service.
Other responsibilities include:
- Delivering and collecting medical equipment between GELS sites as required.
- Assisting with equipment recovery and vehicle changeovers.
- Carrying out basic vehicle maintenance tasks, including topping up fluids and replacing bulbs.
- Cleaning and inspecting vehicles to maintain high standards and support planned maintenance.
- Maintaining accurate records using paper-based and electronic systems.
- Supporting the safe, clean and efficient operation of the workshop environment.
- Working independently and collaboratively to respond to service demands.
- Following health and safety procedures and contributing to a high-quality, customer-focused service.
The role includes driving and manual handling. You must be able to safely lift and carry equipment such as bariatric beds, hoists, shower chairs and walking frames.
About You
We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual with experience of driving vehicles and a practical understanding of vehicle defects and basic maintenance. You will be organised, adaptable and able to manage your workload with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Driving and operating vehicles safely.
- Identifying vehicle defects and carrying out basic repairs or maintenance.
- Working in a busy transport, fleet or workshop environment.
- Managing workloads independently and prioritising tasks effectively.
- Maintaining accurate records and following agreed procedures.
You will need a full UK driving licence.
