Headteacher
Salary Range - Group 3 - L18-L24 (£78,702 - £91,158)

Required for September 2026

Due to the retirement of our current headteacher of sixteen years in August 2026, we are seeking an equally exceptional leader who is passionate about meeting our children’s needs and continuing our work to deliver high quality education.

Harewood Junior School is a highly successful school, and we pride ourselves on the opportunities we provide for our children and the academic success they achieve. We are looking forward to continuing to build upon this success by exploring relationships within the Gloucester Schools Partnership (GSP).

Our next headteacher will be someone who also understands how to inspire teachers and children; who delights in working with children; and who is committed to securing our children’s true potential, socially, emotionally and academically.

We are looking for someone who:
- is, first and foremost, an outstanding, knowledgeable and inclusive practitioner,
- shares the school’s vision, values and ethos,
- has a proven track record of inspirational leadership,
- has extensive teaching experience across the whole primary phase,
- sets high expectations of pupils’ love of learning, achievement and behaviour; and models such expectations in their own practice,
- has excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- enjoys working in partnership with parents, staff, governors, other agencies and the local community.

Our children are individuals; our staff are talented and committed; and our governing body will offer dedicated support. We work extremely closely with our sister infant school and other local schools in the Gloucester Schools’ Partnership: together we are at an exciting stage in our schools’ development and considering the future direction of our partnership work.

Our recruitment process follows the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance, and the position is subject to all necessary pre-employment checks: enhanced DBS; Prohibition check; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications; medical fitness; identity and right to work. It is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.

Harewood Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
