Location: Gloucester
Contract: Permanent
We are currently recruiting for an aerospace client based in Gloucester, who are looking for a process quality engineer to join the team.
As Lead Process Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for driving the optimisation and improvement of the organisation's manufacturing operations, focusing on establishing effective process controls which enable high levels of quality performance, and on developing flow and reducing waste throughout each manufacturing value stream. The role will also support implementation and lead on training for the effective introduction of new products and processes.
Role Responsibilities - Lead Process Engineer
* Lead process engineering maturity, deliver APQP-aligned training, and deputise for the Process Engineering Manager.
* Perform day-to-day Process Engineer duties using standardised tools and methods to ensure consistent and accurate execution.
* Collaborate with Quality Engineers on PFMEA, Control Plans, and implementation of effective process controls
* Own and maintain production process documentation, including SOPs, process maps, value-stream maps, Yamazumi charts, spaghetti diagrams, and time studies.
* Drive process efficiency and continuous improvement through data analysis, waste reduction initiatives, tooling management, and Lean activities.
* Provide technical support, troubleshoot process issues, and work with Manufacturing Engineering to improve OEE and operational performance
* Support new product/process introduction, cross-functional problem solving, audits, compliance activities, and Process Engineering KPIs.
* Contribute to BMS use, policy development, annual improvement planning, and maintain strong working relationships across value stream teams.
The ideal candidate for the Lead Process Engineer would have:
* Experience designing and implementing new processes with strong knowledge of APQP tools (PPAP, PSW, PFMEA, Control Plans, Standard Ops).
* Strong problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail and a completer/finisher approach.
* Self-motivated, able to work independently, and highly methodical and organised.
* Strong communication and mentoring skills with openness to change.
* Experience with lean manufacturing tools (Single Piece Flow, Jidoka, SMED, 5S).
* Desirable experience in leading and managing teams.
* Familiarity with project management tools such as MS Project and Project Charters.
* Holds a driving licence and able to travel to customers/suppliers at short notice.
