Health & Safety Coordinator

HSE Coordinator required in Gloucester, Salary: £35,000 per annum, Job Type: Full-time, Permanent.
Excellent opportunity to join an established manufacturing business in a varied Health, Safety and Environmental role, supporting safe working practices across a busy production environment. This position would suit someone with previous Health & Safety experience or a good understanding of HSE within manufacturing, production or engineering who is looking to continue developing their career.
Job Description:
The HSE Coordinator will work closely with the HSE Manager and wider production and engineering teams to support day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the site. You will assist with risk assessments, workplace inspections, COSHH, safety documentation, audits and incident investigations while helping to promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.
This is a hands-on position where you will regularly engage with employees across the production environment, helping to identify potential risks and ensuring appropriate procedures and controls are followed.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the manufacturing site.
- Assist with general and task-specific risk assessments.
- Support the development and maintenance of Safe Systems of Work.
- Maintain and update Health & Safety documentation and records.
- Assist with the management of the site COSHH register.
- Review Safety Data Sheets and support COSHH risk assessments.
- Help ensure substances are correctly stored, handled, segregated and labelled.
- Carry out regular workplace inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Support internal Health & Safety audits and inspections.
- Monitor actions following audits and ensure appropriate improvements are completed.
- Support employee inductions, refresher training and Health & Safety awareness.
- Assist with toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Promote safe working practices and appropriate use of PPE.
- Assist with investigations into accidents, incidents, spills and near misses.
- Help identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to identify practical safety improvements.
- Support environmental protection and compliance activities.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute towards continuous improvement across the site.
About You:
- Previous experience within Health & Safety or a similar role would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of a manufacturing, production or engineering environment.
- Practical understanding of workplace Health & Safety and safe working practices.
- Some knowledge of COSHH and risk assessments would be beneficial.
- Confident communicating and working closely with production and engineering teams.
- Strong organisational skills with good attention to detail.
- Comfortable maintaining accurate documentation and records.
- Proactive approach with the confidence to identify and raise potential Health & Safety concerns.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to suggest practical improvements.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees throughout the business.
- Willingness to learn and continue developing Health & Safety knowledge.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or currently working towards a relevant Health & Safety qualification.
- Previous experience within manufacturing, engineering or production.
- Knowledge of COSHH and Safety Data Sheets.
- Experience completing or supporting workplace risk assessments.
- Previous involvement with audits or workplace inspections.
- Experience delivering toolbox talks or safety briefings.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance.
