Clerk/Proper Officer/RFO

About the Role
The Clerk/Proper Officer/Responsible Financial Officer, is responsible for ensuring the Council operates lawfully, efficiently and effectively in line with the NALC job specification. You will play a key role in supporting councillors, managing council business, and helping to deliver projects that make a real difference to residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising the Council on legal, procedural and policy matters
- Preparing agendas and minutes for Council and committee meetings
- Managing correspondence and acting as the first point of contact for the Council
- Supporting and project-leading Council initiatives and community projects
- Managing basic accounting, including budgeting, payments and financial records
- Ensuring compliance with statutory duties, policies and best practice
- Liaising confidently with councillors, residents, contractors, partner organisations and local authorities
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in basic accounting and financial administration
- Is confident dealing with a wide range of people, issues and priorities
- Can work independently, using initiative and sound judgement
- Has strong organisational and communication skills
- Is proficient in Microsoft Word (experience with other Microsoft Office tools is an advantage)
- Enjoys problem-solving and can manage competing demands calmly and professionally
- Is motivated by public service and wants to make a positive difference in the local community
Previous experience in local government or parish council work is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.

Salary: (£18.35 – £20.29 per hour), depending on experience
