Head of Biology

The Dean Close School is looking to appoint an inspiring and ambitious Head of Biology to lead a thriving and successful department from starting in Jan 2027, on a full time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Biology at Dean Close at a time of strong pupil uptake, excellent academic outcomes, and with significant Science facilities upgrades planned over the next two years.
The Head of Biology will provide academic leadership to a well-established department teaching Years 9–13, delivering GCSE and A Level Biology to highly engaged pupils. Biology is the most popular GCSE science at the School, with strong and sustained A Level numbers.
You will be responsible for the strategic direction, teaching and learning, and day‑to‑day management of the department, while also teaching a full timetable and contributing fully to the wider life of a busy day and boarding school.
The successful candidates shortlisted for interview, would need to be available for interview week commencing 25th May 2027.
The successful candidate will have experience of teaching Biology to A2 level including GCSE.
