experiences, builds resilience, and promotes leadership and a lifelong love of the outdoors, our OED
provides another area in which our students can excel, bond and celebrate collective and individual success.

Our Outdoor Education and CCF facilities include dedicated departmental space, an on-site shooting
range, flight simulator and indoor climbing wall, camping and DofE equipment and our own fleet of
canoes. We have all it takes to inspire and support every kind of adventure.

With high uptake at all levels, Duke of Edinburgh is a thriving part of school life, with training and expeditions taking place on weekends and increasingly as part of the curriculum, making adventure accessible for all.

Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) engages students from Year 9 to Year 13 in both Army and RAF
sections, developing teamwork and confidence in a dynamic, supportive environment. Pate’s CCF is
one of the largest contingents in the South West, with deep historic ties to the Royal Wessex Yeomanry.

We continue to benefit from and build on our relationship.

We run a thriving Climbing Club every day after school, with teams also climbing at weekends. Similarly, our Shooting Club takes place most evenings in the week, with competitions on weekends.
Outdoor Education at Pate’s is a whole school commitment, with various staff contributing to the
outstanding offer.

This is an exciting time for Outdoor Education at Pate’s, and a brilliant opportunity for a new Head of
Department to continue the excellent progress made in this area of our school, helping to lead and shape its future.

Reporting to:  Assistant Headteacher – Co-Curricular
Responsible for:  Outdoor Education Team
Contract type:  Permanent.
Hours:  Full time 37 hours per week, year-round.

The days to be worked are dependant on the needs of the Outdoor Education calendar and will be
discussed further at interview.

Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team as Head of Adventure and Outdoor Education at Pate’s
Grammar School.

This is an exciting time for Adventure and Outdoor Education at our school, where we are ready to build on and develop the fantastic provision currently in place. As the successful candidate, you would play a pivotal role in this development, creating the long-term strategic vision enhance our current offer.

In this role, you will have responsibility for the educational and pastoral provision of Adventure and
Outdoor Education at our school, providing vision and leadership to ensure the development and delivery of a rich and engaging programme, which is inclusive, offering opportunities for all, and contributing to the character development of our students, supporting the school’s overall strategic vision.

To be successful in this role, you will be passionate about Adventure and Outdoor Education and have
a desire to provide opportunities for all. You will be energetic, dynamic and keen to inspire students
to challenge themselves, and champion outdoor education as a key part of any student’s educational
journey.

There is the opportunity to act as the School Staff Instructor (SSI) in the planning and delivery of the
Combined Cadet Force (CCF) as part of this role, however we are also keen to hear from candidates who do not have the relevant experience or qualifications to do this, or who are keen to work towards this position. The salary quoted for the role reflects the SSI responsibilities, therefore would be adjusted should this not be part of the role.

The successful candidate will be empowered to manage their time around the priorities and needs of the department, and this will involve activities and trips during term time, weekends and school holidays.
