everyone is a teacher of students with SEND.
The SEND Team at Pate’s acts as a bridge between academic and pastoral care by supporting the early identification and appropriate support for specific educational needs. Based in the Student Support Centre, at the heart of the school, the SEND Team coordinate individual support tailored to our student needs.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo) to lead on the provision of SEND across our school, combining strategic leadership with operational oversight to ensure an inclusive education for all students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This strategic role sits within the Senior Leadership Team and combines vision, operational oversight and a deep commitment to inclusive education. In this role you will shape and deliver our SEND and Inclusion strategy, ensuring high expectations and excellent teaching remain at the heart of our approach.
You will oversee the identification, assessment and provision for students with SEND, including responsibility for EHCPs, annual reviews, Personalised Learning Plans and the SEN register. Working collaboratively with academic and pastoral leaders, you will monitor progress, secure strong outcomes and ensure that students with SEND receive exemplary pastoral support alongside academic challenge.
A key part of the role will be leading the Student Support Centre and ensuring that interventions, resources and support are high-quality, well-evaluated and tailored to student needs. You will also oversee Exam Access Arrangements, support admissions related SEND queries, maintain accurate records and work closely with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure seamless and consistent provision.
You will develop staff expertise through targeted CPD, coaching and clear guidance on adaptive teaching and inclusive practice. As line manager for the Student Support team, you will deploy resources effectively, support colleagues in planning for SEND students and ensure that policies and procedures are fully understood and embedded across the school.
We are looking for a leader with senior or middle leadership experience and a deep understanding of SEND, excellent communication and analytical skills, and the ability to lead with clarity, empathy and purpose.
