About the role:
We are looking for a experienced and skilled leader to join our school. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work with curriculum leaders and the SEND team to develop and promote high quality teaching and learning strategies in every classroom across the school. You will also hold strategic responsibility for ECTs in the school and have a key role in developing initial teacher training (including those staff working towards QTS) within the school. The postholder will also be required to teach a maximum of 50% of a normal timetable, with a willingness to be flexible around what subjects they deliver.
The school has 8 centres based across Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud. The successful candidate will mainly work at either Stroud or Gloucester, based at one of our KS3 centres. However, the role will require travelling across all of our sites, and therefore an ability and willingness to drive is essential for this post.
About us:
The Altus School is a local authority maintained alternative provision school, working with students from Year 1 through to Y11 who predominantly join us after a permanent exclusion from a mainstream setting. We are a supportive and nurturing school and place relationships at heart of all that we do to help our students flourish both in school and in the wider community. You can hear directly from our staff about what it is like to work at the school by looking at our website. You will be joining a challenging but but ultimately hugely rewarding environment. Every day is different, you will develop strong working relationships both with students and your colleagues. Together, we make a real difference for our young people and families.
As a growing and developing school we now have capacity for 280 students. There are a wide range of opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to plan and share best practice. In addition, you will benefit from a generous employee assistance scheme which includes health care, online sports and fitness and wellbeing support.
We welcome visitors to the school to come and see us in action and to meet with the Director or Deputy Director. You can contact Kate Williams on 01452 397632 or via kate.williams@altusschool.org.uk to arrange a visit.
Start date of 1st January 2026 or earlier.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, and volunteers, to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
