Edward Jenner School is a co-educational independent day school located in the heart of Gloucester.
Founded in September 2012 by Manda Brookes (the sole proprietor) and her husband Phil, who are
incredibly enthusiastic about teaching and learning. They have set up Edward Jenner School to share their enthusiasm and expertise.

Edward Jenner School strives to build self-reliance through developing executive functioning skills to
enable young people to embrace the opportunities they will face in their future. We endeavour to know
and understand each young person as a unique learner and to support them to achieve their full
academic potential. We are a learning school who provide a high level of needs support through focussed individual provision. Our school values kindness and supports empathy. This is a unique and career-defining opportunity for an ambitious and creative leader to join us as Deputy Headteacher, you will be working in close partnership with the Headteacher to:

  • Learn, deliver and then help shape our bespoke and personalised curriculum.
  • Support and inspire the whole teaching and learning team to deliver an outstanding SEMH provision
  • Ensure every young person is fully supported to reach their desired destination post 16.
  • Ensure that all staff have access to purposeful and quality professional development.
  • Ensure that young people are prioritised and that school-based decisions focus on the aim and impact for them.
  • Work with parents and carers to ensure that they feel connected to school and valued as partners in the education and development of their young people.
  • Develop collaborative relationships within the local and wider community that will benefit the school, young people, families and the city of Gloucester.

We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who can demonstrate:

  • A deep understanding of SEMH, Autism and specific learning needs and a willingness to keep learning and reflecting.
  • Experience of a leadership role in a special or mainstream setting, with evidence of building and supporting a team.
  • The creativity, resilience and ambition to keep developing the school whilst focussing on our  founding principles.
  • The ability to inspire, support and develop staff teams to be their very best.
  • A passionate belief in the potential of every young person, and the values that underpin our work.
