About the Role:

ABL Health has expanded the Healthy Lifestyle Service Gloucestershire with a new Tobacco Dependency Outreach Service. The service focuses on supporting people across Gloucestershire from priority communities to stop smoking, improve wellbeing, and make long term, sustainable changes

As a Community Wellbeing Advisor (Smoking Cessation), you will work:

  • Directly with priority communities across Gloucestershire
  • Proactively engage people who may face barriers to accessing traditional health services
  • Provide tailored, one-to-one behavioural support to help people quit smoking
  • Recommend and support the use of appropriate nicotine replacement therapies (NRT)

You’ll work with one or across multiple specialist outreach pathways, supporting communities such as:

- People affected by substance misuse
- People experiencing homelessness or living in temporary or social housing
- The LGBTQIA+ community
- The Polish community
- Other underserved groups

Duties and Responsibilities:

The post holder will work with key priority and underserved communities, including individuals affected by substance misuse, homelessness, those living in temporary accommodation or social housing, the Polish community, LGBTQIA+ communities and other groups experiencing health inequalities.

They will motivate, empower and support clients to make positive behavioural changes to address smoking addiction through the delivery of evidence-based stop smoking interventions, including one-to-one support in community settings, group sessions, telephone and online support, in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme (training provided).

The role involves delivering personalised, client-centred care tailored to individual needs and preferences, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practice, and integrating new research into service delivery.

The post holder will engage and recruit clients at community and promotional events, manage an active caseload to ensure continuity of care, lead peer support groups to prevent relapse, and work collaboratively with partner professionals to embed smoking cessation into routine care.

They will maintain accurate, confidential and compliant records using ABL Health systems, support risk management and safeguarding processes, contribute to service monitoring, performance reporting and continuous improvement, and attend relevant meetings, training and supervision.

The role requires flexible working across community settings, including evenings and weekends where required, and contributing to wider ABL Health corporate initiatives in line with the organisation’s mission, values and strategic goals.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Experience delivering services within community settings and to priority groups
  • Experience of working with evolving and developing services
  • Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and support others to achieve the highest standards and outcomes.
  • Adept in communication; a strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience including clients, staff, and volunteers at all levels.
  • Build strong relationships, foster trust and co-operation among colleagues, stakeholders throughout community settings.
  • Quality driven; you naturally seek high standards and actively seek to improve them.
  • Value and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.
