Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Job summary
This appointment offers the chance to join our team of specialist oncoplastic breast surgeons. The current post is for 7.5PAs with the potential for increase as departmental budget allows, to meet the growing needs of our service.
As a consultant, you will be working closely with our imaging doctors and specialist radiographers to deliver one-stop 2WW diagnostic clinics, as well as offering results clinics and regular operating sessions. We are a joint department with screening, sharing a building and equipment with our diagnostic colleagues, and our management structure reflects this. Much of our service is day surgery, so there will only be a limited need to see ward patients. Most breast emergencies are seen in the one stop clinic, and out of hours is covered by our general surgery colleagues, but you would still be expected to attend occasional post operative emergencies where appropriate and see ward referrals across both main hospital sites. Operating currently also takes place at our community hospital at Stroud General Hospital, and all consultants are expected to have a proportion of their lists there.

Main duties of the job
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service
To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans
To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division and the Trust.

Breast Surgery is part of the Trust's Surgical Division, within the Breast, Urology and Vascular group of services. The Chief of Service; Mr David Cooper, has recently been appointed. He also holds clinical commitments as a Vascular Surgeon. The Divisional Director of Operations is Simon Burchfield and the Divisional Nursing Director is Sarah Mather. The Department team is supported by a General Manager, Ms Sydney Walsh and her Deputy Lauren Jennings .
