Job summary
In this position the post holder will have a key leadership role as a senior nurse working within and supporting a multi-professional team, providing a specialist service to a caseload of patients, families and carers throughout their cancer pathway and beyond
The post holder will be responsible for working collaboratively with all healthcare professionals and agencies to ensure high quality care and efficient services meet the cancer priorities of the organization and the national cancer agenda.
The role requires the postholder to maintain professional standards, act as a role model and provide accessible, professional leadership at all times, whilst working effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
The postholder will be expected to provide education and training to colleagues pertinent to the role and ensure they maintain their own professional development.
The role will include some management and strategic responsibilities in addition to report writing, data collection, audit and service development opportunities.
The postholder will promote evidence-based practice within the specialty through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, and displaying a commitment to nursing research

Main duties of the job
Undertake and manage a caseload of patients who have highly complex symptoms and changing needs working without supervision.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team across primary and secondary care to provide highly specialist holistic care to patients throughout their pathway in line with local and national targets.
Act as an educator and resource to other health care professionals across primary and secondary care.
Participate in and initiate audit and research relevant to improving service outcomes.
Develop the CNS role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their supporters are central to service improvement initiatives.
Provide leadership, set and maintain professional nursing standards, provide professional nursing advice and direction to staff.
