Description
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join Gloucestershire Constabularies in-house Occupational Health Unit.
The Mental Health Nurse plays a pivotal role within the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department, supporting the Constabulary to meet its statutory responsibilities and maintain a healthy, fit, and deployable workforce. The post holder delivers a comprehensive occupational mental health nursing service, providing expert clinical input across case management, mental health risk assessment, and wellbeing promotion.
Working collaboratively with HR, managers, and wider organisational partners, the Mental Health Nurse provides professional advice and support on a wide range of mental health matters, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation including medical confidentiality requirements and the Equality Act 2010. The role includes the triage and management of mental health referrals, assessment of fitness for role, guidance on adjustments, and intervention to support attendance and recovery.
A key focus of the role is the identification, assessment and escalation of mental health risks, including safeguarding concerns and crisis situations, in line with force and NHS procedures. The post holder designs and delivers psychological surveillance for higher‑risk roles, facilitates access to appropriate internal and external support services, and ensures that management reports are clear, practical, and aligned with organisational needs.

The successful candidate for this role will be vetted at level Staff RV. This means the individual will need at least 3 years worth of residency in the UK.
