Contract type: Permanent
Working pattern: Compressed hours, Full time, Part time (30-37 hours, minimum 4-day working pattern)
About the role
Culverhay Surgery is looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Nurse to provide clinical and professional leadership to our practice nursing team.
This is a varied role combining clinical practice, team leadership, clinical governance and service development. Working closely with the Partners, Practice and Operations Managers, Clinical Pharmacist and wider multidisciplinary team, you will help shape and develop a high-quality, patient-focused nursing service across the practice.
You will provide professional leadership to the practice nursing team, supporting colleagues with clinical practice, development, supervision and training. You will also have responsibility for ensuring effective communication and collaborative working across the wider nursing team and with colleagues across the PCN and community services.
A key aspect of the role will be providing clinical leadership and oversight to the Frailty Team, working through the Lead Frailty Nurse to provide appropriate support, guidance and direction while enabling the team to work independently within their roles.
You will also take a lead role in clinical governance and supervision, CQC compliance and infection prevention and control, coordinating and delegating appropriate work within the nursing team while retaining overall oversight and accountability for standards and completion.
Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a clinical role, delivering high-quality nursing care including assessment, treatment, screening, long-term condition management, health education and advice within your scope of practice.
About you
We are looking for a nurse who combines strong clinical expertise with effective leadership and communication skills.
You will be:
- An experienced registered nurse with relevant primary care or transferable clinical experience.
- Confident working autonomously while recognising the importance of effective collaboration and escalation.
- A supportive and approachable leader who is committed to developing colleagues and encouraging high standards of clinical practice.
- Able to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships across clinical, administrative and management teams.
- Organised and able to prioritise, delegate and maintain appropriate oversight of responsibilities.
- Committed to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, quality improvement and continuing professional development.
- Passionate about providing safe, effective and patient-centred care.
- Able to work collaboratively with colleagues across practice, PCN and community services to improve consistency and continuity of care.
Experience or a particular clinical interest in areas such as teaching and any chronic diseases would be welcomed.
A prescribing qualification would also be advantageous, although we recognise that applicants will bring different areas of clinical expertise.
What we can offer
This is an opportunity to take a key leadership role within a busy primary care team and to make a meaningful contribution to the development of nursing services.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead and develop an established practice nursing team.
- Influence clinical standards and service development.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary and community nursing teams.
- Support the Frailty Team.
- Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance and the ongoing development of primary care services.
- Continue to develop your own clinical and leadership skills.
