Clinical Psychologist 8a: Community Neurology Service (18.75 hours per week)

This part time 8a permanent post provides highly specialist clinical health psychology intervention, including specialist neuropsychological assessment, to adult out-patients with highly complex difficulties. Specifically the post provides input for people with neurological conditions across Gloucestershire as part of a community multidisciplinary rehabilitation team .

This includes developing and providing specialist programmes of care and advice at an individual and group level, consultative advice and supervision for colleagues, education of colleagues and service based research.

The post provides psychology, along with 2 other part-time psychology colleagues (a band 8a and a band7) into the community neurology team and is also part of the wider Health Psychology Department at GHT, benefiting from the contact and collaboration with psychologists there, in particular those working in other neuroscience areas.

The post would be ideally suited to someone looking to progress their career in the neurological rehabilitation field, although we also welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists who may be interested in developing expertise in this area through a perceptorship model.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Contribute to the psychological assessment and care of individuals with neurological conditions and stroke in the community.

Duties will include:

Specialist psychological / neuropsychological assessment and intervention with individuals with neurological problems / their families, and the wider MDT involved in their care .

Interdisciplinary working contributing to a coherent goal-directed rehabilitation service.

Establishing and embedding best patient care initiatives.

A commitment to the provision of evidence-based health care is essential as is experience in neuropsychological assessment and the ability to assess creatively and functionally. You also require a good understanding of the psychological factors influencing physical health and delivery of health care, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an appreciation of the need to adjust therapeutic input to take into account the presence of cognitive impairment. Enthusiasm, commitment and an ability to work as part of a team are essential.
