Healthy Beginnings Specialist Coach (Pregnancy and Early Parenthood)

Healthy Beginnings Specialist Coach (Pregnancy and Early Parenthood)

Gloucester

Role purpose:

As a Healthy Beginnings Specialist Coach you will deliver specialist health coaching across the three core Healthy Beginnings pathways: smoking cessation, healthy weight in pregnancy and healthy postnatal living. A significant proportion of the role will involve proactively contacting and supporting clients by telephone and video call, providing accessible, flexible and personalised coaching to people and families throughout pregnancy and early parenthood. You will also deliver face-to-face appointments and group sessions where appropriate to meet client and service needs.

Using evidence-based behaviour change techniques, you will empower people and families to make sustainable lifestyle changes that improve maternal, infant and family health outcomes while helping to reduce health inequalities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Healthy Beginnings Practitioner, you will deliver a predominantly remote programme of support through telephone and video appointments, alongside face-to-face group sessions and digital platforms.

You will manage a caseload of people and families, providing personalised health coaching, building trusting relationships, assessing individual needs, agreeing SMART goals and supporting sustainable behaviour change throughout their Healthy Beginnings journey.

You will provide specialist support across the programme, including smoking cessation for pregnant people, their partners and families, healthy weight maintenance during pregnancy through nutrition and physical activity advice, and postnatal healthy lifestyle support covering infant feeding, introducing solid foods, oral health, healthy eating, physical activity and reducing social isolation.

Using motivational interviewing, health coaching and positive psychology approaches, you will develop personalised support plans, monitor outcomes, maintain regular proactive contact and re-engage clients where appropriate.

You will provide person-centred, strengths-based support, identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and work collaboratively with maternity services, Family Hubs, health visitors, primary care and community partners to promote the service and maximise referrals.

You will maintain accurate and confidential records, contribute to audits, evaluation, contract reporting, co-production and continuous service improvement, and represent ABL Health positively at stakeholder meetings and community events.

You will manage your workload effectively while working independently across a predominantly remote caseload, maintain professional standards and mandatory training, and be flexible to travel across Gloucestershire, including occasional evening and weekend work.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
