Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Ophthalmic Imager to take on a Band 6 Team Lead role within our Ophthalmic Imaging service.
This post combines advanced clinical imaging expertise with operational leadership responsibility, supporting the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused imaging service across multiple sites.
You will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the imaging team, ensuring safe staffing, efficient clinic flow, and high standards of patient care. Working closely with specialist Band 6 colleagues in education and systems support roles within Ophthalmic Imaging, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to service development, workforce planning, and continuous improvement within a dynamic, supportive, forward-thinking and award winning team environment.
Main duties of the job
Provide advanced ophthalmic imaging, including OCT, fundus photography, and FFA, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care. Offer clinical expertise within imaging clinics and support safe, efficient patient pathways across services.
Contribute to professional development by supporting staff training and competency alongside the Practice Educator. Maintain professional standards, participate in appraisals, and support ongoing staff development.
Lead the day-to-day delivery of ophthalmic imaging services, line managing Band 3-5 staff. Responsibilities include sickness management, rota and annual leave coordination, appraisals, and performance management. Act as the first point of escalation for operational and staffing issues, and ensure imaging equipment functionality in collaboration with the Ophthalmic Systems Lead. Support audit, governance, and service improvement initiatives.
Coordinate imaging services across hospital and community settings, ensuring effective workforce planning, safe staffing levels, and efficient clinic flow. Support delivery of service objectives across multiple sites.
Contribute to audit, quality improvement, and implementation of evidence-based best practices.
Work collaboratively with the Head of Department, Practice Educator, and Ophthalmic Systems Lead, maintaining effective communication across multidisciplinary teams.
Ensure compliance with Trust policies and maintain flexibility to support service needs within a busy clinical environment.
