Support Worker

Location: Supported Accommodation, Stroud, Gloucestershire
Reports to: Housing Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and reliable Support Worker to join our new Supported Accommodation service in Stroud. Working alongside the Housing Manager, you will support residents to develop the skills, confidence, and independence needed to maintain their accommodation and achieve their personal goals.
You will play a key role in delivering person-centred support, helping residents access services, manage their tenancy, improve wellbeing, and move towards positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Support
- Provide high-quality, person-centred support to residents in line with individual support plans.
- Build positive and professional relationships with residents based on respect, dignity, and trust.
- Support residents to develop independent living skills, including budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and managing appointments.
- Encourage residents to engage in education, training, employment, and meaningful community activities.
- Support residents to access healthcare, mental health services, substance misuse services, and other specialist agencies as required.
- Promote positive physical and emotional wellbeing. Housing and Tenancy Support
- Assist residents to understand and comply with the terms of their occupancy agreement or tenancy.
- Support residents to maintain their accommodation to an acceptable standard.
- Monitor resident wellbeing and identify any concerns that may impact tenancy sustainment.
- Work closely with the Housing Manager to address tenancy-related issues and support positive outcomes.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Carry out risk assessments and contribute to risk management plans.
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of residents, visitors, and colleagues.
- Report incidents, concerns, and safeguarding matters promptly in line with organisational policies.
Administration and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of support provided.
- Complete support notes, risk assessments, incident reports, and outcome monitoring documentation.
- Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, and training as required.
- Assist the Housing Manager with service monitoring and reporting requirements.
Partnership Working
- Work collaboratively with external agencies, local authorities, healthcare professionals, and community organisations.
- Advocate on behalf of residents where appropriate.
- Support a positive and inclusive culture within the service.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Relevant qualification in Health and Social Care, Housing, or a related field.
- Experience of supporting vulnerable adults, young people, or individuals with complex needs.
- Understanding of person-centred support and empowerment.
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and professional boundaries.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays if required.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within supported housing, homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, or social care services.
- Knowledge of housing support and tenancy sustainment.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
