Commissioning Editor - Professional Law
Cheltenham
Edward Elgar Publishing is looking for a Commissioning Editor to join its Professional Law team to
further develop their programme of books and resources for the professional legal market. The
successful applicant will have experience of commissioning print and digital titles with good knowledge
of, or experience in, the professional legal environment.
Reporting to the Senior Law Publisher and working with both the Senior Law Publisher and the
Publisher for Professional Law, the role will involve pro-actively commissioning new content, identifying
emerging opportunities and areas for growth, building and maintaining effective relationships with
authors, practitioners and other key influencers. The successful applicant will play a significant role in
the further development of the professional law list and the Elgar brand.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience of commissioning books and managing a list
- Demonstrable understanding of the professional legal market
- Strong editorial and communication skills
- Experience of delivering complex projects in print and digital formats to strict deadlines and
- within budget
- Experience of working closely and effectively with authors
- Strong commercial awareness
- Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team as well as independently
- A proactive, self-motivated and commercially focused approach
