We’re looking for a Publishing Assistant to join our Editorial team in Cheltenham, supporting the delivery and promotion of high-quality academic content.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across editorial processes, with opportunities to develop skills in publishing systems, content production and digital marketing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An exceptional level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, self-motivation and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong digital skills - including proficiency in Microsoft Word, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, digital workflows and platforms. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign would be an advantage, as there may be an opportunity to work across our Editorial and Marketing teams
Responsibilities include:
- Writing engaging book descriptions
- Performing triage on submitted manuscripts to help Commissioning Editors
- Sourcing endorsement quotes from prominent academics ahead of publication
- Reformatting elements such as figures and tables to ensure they meet accessibility standards

Job Description
The Publishing Assistant will support and assist Editorial colleagues in their work. The Publishing Assistant should possess strong digital skills, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, digital workflows and platforms as well as having aptitude in problem-solving, organization, communication and time-management.
Full training in all aspects of the role will be provided.
Core duties of the Publishing Assistant will include:
- Modifying and reformatting tables supplied by authors in their manuscripts to ensure they meet accessibility standards, including redrawing tables, adjusting data and applying proper formatting
- Writing book descriptions for book covers and the website
- Sourcing endorsement quotes to use on book covers and in promotional materials
- Providing other administrative/editorial support to the Editorial department surrounding the initial submission of manuscripts from authors including sending figures supplied by authors to dedicated Figures team for fix
- Digital filing using Dropbox, Google Drive and in house databases
- Preparing book cover design brief and where applicable, sourcing and supplying the image for the designers
- Undertaking other administrative tasks as required
The Publishing Assistant reports to the Managing Editor and Deputy Managing Editor in Editorial.
This is an office-based role in Cheltenham.
