Level 2 Teaching Assistant (TA)

Looking for a challenging yet rewarding career as a teaching assistant?

With increasing demands for support in schools across the UK, this nationally recognised Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools & Colleges is designed for individuals looking to work in various support roles within educational settings.

Designed for job seekers, this intensive short course provides an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to a variety of roles such as administrative roles, learning support assistant/classroom assistant, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.

What you'll learn: This qualification introduces learners to the key skills and knowledge needed to support teaching and learning in the classroom. You will learn about child and young person development, safeguarding and wellbeing, effective communication, equality and inclusion, and how to support learning activities.

The course also covers professional practice, teamwork within a school setting, and understanding the roles and responsibilities of staff who support children and young people within a school or college setting.

You’ll gain:

By the end of the course, you will have achieved the NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools & Colleges qualification, meet with a local employer and a guaranteed interview.

Duration: 27th April to 21st May 2026

Location: Gloucestershire College, Cheltenham Campus, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham GL51 7SJ

Times: Monday - Friday , 09:30 to 14:30

Employer: Thrive Education, who will be attending the class on the 20th May and planning interviews with the learners.  I will be sharing the learners names and contact information, in order for Jade from Thrive to arrange.

Entry Requirements:

You must be aged over 19 at the start of the academic year and in receipt of certain benefits, unemployed or earning less than ?25,750.

This a level 2 qualification and the learners must hold either a GCSE Grade 3/D, Functional Skills Level 1, ESOL Level 1 or higher.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in working with young people and supporting learning within school or college environments.

The course requires learners to be confident using a computer and keyboard, including typing and editing text in Microsoft Word.
