Company Overview
Fibra Crop Solutions Limited has established a hemp decortication and processing facility in the Cotswolds, where they are producing fibre and shives/hurd from UK-grown hemp straw.
Role Overview
We are seeking a practical, mechanically minded Processing Plant Operator to help run and further develop a small industrial processing line handling hemp straw. This is a hands-on role working alongside one other experienced Mechanical Engineer, combining day-to-day plant operation with input into how processes, layouts and safety systems are designed and improved.
The role is well suited to a individual with engineering experience, agricultural or industrial processing, or someone looking for steady, hands-on work with the opportunity to shape how the plant operates. A flexible, practical approach to supporting general plant operations as required is important.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operation & Equipment
- Operate and oversee plant equipment used for processing hemp straw
- Operate a hydraulic baler for fibre and straw
- Monitor material flow, throughput and equipment performance
- Identify and resolve minor mechanical issues (blockages, adjustments, wear points)
- Carry out routine checks, lubrication and basic maintenance
- Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer to support smooth plant operation
- Provide general support to day-to-day plant operations as required
- Oversee cleaning and housekeeping of processing equipment and dust extraction systems to maintain safe and efficient operation
- Support the fulfilment of customer orders, including preparation and handling of finished fibre and straw products
- Use of a forklift truck (2.5-tonne) for on-site material handling, where appropriate
Process, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Help design and improve product flows and processing methods to improve efficiency and reliability
- Contribute to the development and refinement of safe systems of work and operating procedures
- Support implementation of health, safety and environmental procedures on site
- Assist with documentation and practical input to help the business work towards ISO accreditation (e.g. ISO 9001 / ISO 14001), focusing on practical, real-world processes
What We’re Looking For
- Strong practical mechanical experience (industrial, agricultural, processing, quarrying, food/feed, biomass or similar)
- Experience operating or maintaining plant, processing or materials-handling equipment
- Confident working with hydraulic machinery
- Forklift experience would be an advantage (training or refresher certification can be provided)
- Practical understanding of safe working practices in an industrial environment
- Flexible, pragmatic approach to supporting plant operations
- Hands-on, methodical approach with good mechanical awareness
- Comfortable working in a small team and taking ownership of equipment
Formal qualifications are not essential — experience, judgement and attitude matter more than certificates.
Working Pattern & Pay
- Part / Full-time: approx. 30-40 hours per week
- Pay dependent on experience (hourly or salary considered)
